Can you make a decent living as a massage therapist?

If someone has been a MT for about a year, can they make enough money to rent an apartment and have a car? Is the salary high enough to live a decent life? Can you make a decent living as a massage therapist?
I have several friends who are MTs. Two of specialize in craniosacral work and both of the struggle constantly for clients. Both of them are independent as neither is willing to work in the ';spa'; environment.

Another friend works for a sports clinic full-time and specializes in deep tissue massage. Another friend specializes in rolfing and deep tissue. Both of them do well working for larger clinics.

I've known a couple of people who worked in high-end spas for essentially minimum wage and finally got out. One went into nursing.

So it depends on the route you take and the community in which you try it. Of course, working with a clinic in a large metro area would be the way to go so that you could develop and maintain a steady clientele. Can you make a decent living as a massage therapist?
Yes you can make a very lucrative salary and career being a massage therapist. It depends on where you live, and what area you would like to work in. I work for a massage therapist in my current job as an office assistant, and he makes a very good amount of money. They charge rates like 85.00/ hr or 45.00/1/2 hour. Say you see about 6-8 patient in a day or more, that can be some very good money for that day.
Yes, but remember location is what it is about. You would want to work at an established spa. Trying to open you own and start out independent would be difficult. Do some checking around in the area you live or area you would like to live and see what spas, resorts, etc are in the area that you could work at.
My friend is a massage therapist. He lives on his own ( I believe he rents a room though) - He does have his own car too. I used to work with him and he left the job to work as a full time MT. So I am assuming if he was doing good before, He wouldn't have left it for something worse, you know?
Yes it all depends where you are working and who you are working for!

be a massage therapist for a professional football team and you can make a pretty nice living!
If you are good at what you do ,you can make a good living with hard work and determination.

..
only if u promise a happy ending
