Are there any marathon runners or massage therapist that can tell me about working in the post race massage?

I am refrerring to the post race massage tent thing's like what to expect in there. Any stories you have about being in there and having to deal with the runners getting cramps in the calves or feet? Are there any marathon runners or massage therapist that can tell me about working in the post race massage?
There could be a number of things you come across in a post marathon situation. Dehydration, depleted electrolytes (i.e. heat cramps), blisters on the feet (most marathoners are encouraged to keep the shoes on, unless they don't plan to put their shoes back on after they are off. Their feet will swell until their body recovers: 1-2 hours after). Leaving the shoes and socks on also prevents unnecessary exposure to open wounds on the feet. Depending on the weather, thermal conditions such as hypo %26amp; hyper thermia can be issues that develop post marathon and you should be familiar with how to handle either situation. Identify where medical personnel might be at the event in case you need to refer. With cramping, some compressions and rocking and passive joint movement may help. With others a holding stretch may help. There is no magic wand. Try a few different release techniques and see what works. If nothing works and the person keeps cramping, put a bag of ice on the area and introduce more fluids. Taking care of the dehydration then becomes more important than the massage. You may also notice the longer you spend at the massage tent, the more severe problems you might encounter, since the slower runners typically have less training preparation for the race. I wish you well. Enjoy the experience. A good resource online might be http://www.amtamassage.org They have had good sports massage material available over the years. Are there any marathon runners or massage therapist that can tell me about working in the post race massage?
sounds about right, after all, when you finish a marathon your fast twitch muscles are firing off like crazy. For the most part you will mainly be concentrating on the big muscle groups as most Post Run marathons only give you about 20 minutes with a runner.

So you would be looking at Hams, Quads, Calf and butt. You can't go particularlly deep as you could trigger a cramp (charlie horse). But believe me nothing better then finishing a marathon and getting those 20 minutes with a massage therapist.
